Love and Obey

The Apostle John, one of the twelve original Disciples of Christ expounds on Jesus’ words: “A new command I give you; Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 NIV
In his first epistle, John further explains, “This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 5:2-5 NIV
John says that love and obedience are so closely connected that they are almost one in the same. “This is love for God: to obey his commands.”
May God, through Jesus Christ, be with us all. Amen
